Why Didn't I Think of That? Wednesday

Each Wednesday I'll share a tip to make your week go more smoothly or just make you say "aha!"

Everybody loves freshly baked cookies, but you don't always have time to get all the ingredients together and make them from scratch. It's easy to grab a tube of cookie dough at the store, but who knows what polyunsaturated hydrogenated gunk is in them?

Prepare for cookie cravings by making an extra batch of dough and freezing it. Roll the dough into a log, wrap it really well in wax paper and store in a ziplok bag. Then when you NEED a fresh cookie, slice off and bake as many cookies as you want.

  1. This is also a good tip for people who might be tempted to eat the whole batch - you can cook just a few at a time. Not that I know anything about that...

  2. Another option, at least for "drop" style cookies - go so far as to form the cookies into balls, place on a cookie sheet ( can be really close together), and freeze for a few hours. When they're frozen through, transfer 'em to a zip-top bag & return to the freezer. I've been doing this for years. When we were selling our home & a realtor would call to say they were bringing a potential buyer by, I'd pop some cookies in the oven & have fresh-baked cookies waiting when they arrived. Many folks ate them, but it was also nice to have the smell wafting through the house to give it the "wouldn't you love to live here" feel.
