I popped into the Goodwill in Folsom on a whim, thinking it would be nice to get some "new" clothes for work. After browsing the pants and skirts, I breezed by the dress rack when a flash of red satin caught my eye.
I pulled it out of the rack for a closer look and nearly fell over. Yes, the tag is still attached. Yes, the tag says Ralph Lauren.
It didn't have a special Goodwill price tag, so I double-checked with the lady at the register. She confirmed that it was $5.99. I nearly fell over again. It sells for $169.00 (gasp).
This led me to a flurry of questions. Who would give a brand-new dress to Goodwill? How on Earth could Ralph Lauren charge $169 for an unlined dress? Why didn't the people at Goodwill mark it up?
But most important--do I have it altered and keep it (which costs me money) or flip it on eBay (which makes me money)?
What's your vote? Keep it or flip it? Comments, please...

Flip it! That Goodwill is insane that way. I know what you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought you had altered it already! LOL Here's what I would do .... if you have an event coming up that you know you'll use it for, alter it and rock it. But if not, then flip it on eBay, but spend the money on something just as nice and fun for yourself, but make it something you'll get more use out of, like a great new handbag or new boots for fall.
ReplyDeleteKeep it! That red would look gorgeous on you and it's a classic cut that's not going out of style anytime soon. Nice find, my friend. - your cube neighbor
ReplyDeleteunless you have something special coming up to wear it to, I say flip it! if you look HOT in it (which I'm sure you do!) set a reserve on it...then you're sure to get what you want for it! Congrats! LOVE finding stuff like that at Goodwill!
ReplyDeleteI'd say flip it!
ReplyDeleteAs above, if you don't have an event in the nexxt 3 to 6 months, FLIP IT! It's like the classic adage, no deal is a good deal if you're really not going to wear it. And the other adage, if it sits in your closet for 6 months and you never wear it - well, in that case FLIP IT!
