Cold winter days mean lots of baking--cookies, roasts, breads, baked potatoes. Mmmm, now I'm hungry. Don't open the oven door to peek at your creations! Each time you open, it lets 20% or more of the heat out. Stick to the timer and the oven window instead.

It amazes me that more people don't realize this. I was biting my tongue so hard this Thanksgiving watching Mike's aunt opening the oven to check on the turkey every few minutes. I think in total the bird took an extra 2-3 hours to cook and was the worst driest turkey I've ever had!
